EXPLORE OUR 2007-2008 MAINSTAGE SEASON
DEAR FRIEND:
I’m thrilled to introduce you to our 2007-2008 season. For the first time in New Rep history, we’re producing 10 productions on our two stages. To help you fully enjoy this incredible diversity of work, we’ve introduced a subscription package that includes all 8 non-holiday productions, enough to satisfy even the hungriest theatre enthusiast. We’re able to offer this to you at such a low price thanks to the generous support of our donors and sponsors.
In addition to our 5-play Mainstage series in the beautiful 340-seat Charles Mosesian Theater, we’ll present the third year of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. Meanwhile, following the critical success of the inaugural season of our Downstage @ New Rep Series downstairs in the intimate 90-seat Black Box Theater, we are producing six remarkable plays as part of four evenings of theatre, including the return of last season’s sold-out holiday show, The Santaland Diaries.
New Rep continues a commitment to presenting powerful theatre and exciting and relevant new work. Over our 23-year history, New Rep has presented 57 World, New England, and Boston Area Premieres, and the 2007-2008 season is no exception. We will have a World Premiere, a New England Premiere, and two Boston Area Premieres, including the National New Play Network (NNPN) World Premiere of A House With No Walls by Thomas Gibbons, which was discovered as part of our New Voices @ New Rep Series this past January.
This season, above all, is about great writers and important ideas. Williams, Molière, Pinter – writers who have helped define the art of playwriting – will stand side by side with extraordinary new voices like Sarah Ruhl and Thomas Gibbons. In My Name is Rachel Corrie and Pieces, a pair of plays being performed in rotating repertory, you will hear the real voices of two extraordinary women on different sides of the Middle East conflict. All of these plays will lead to debate, discovery and, hopefully, greater understanding of our shared world.
These 10 productions represent our commitment to bringing you the most provocative, thought-provoking, and entertaining plays we can find each season, and to give you the greatest variety of choices possible in your theatre-going decisions. Whether you join us for one, three, five, or all 10 next season, our promise to you is to always make your time with us a journey of wonderful discovery.
Enjoy the season!
Sincerely,

Rick Lombardo
Producing Artistic Director
