Washington Hotel A deluxe property combining the ambiance of a traditional hotel with contemporary standards of convenience and luxury. Set in the heart of fashionable Mayfair between Piccadilly and Berkeley Squares, just a short stroll to London’s most elegant and fashionable shops. Just a two-minute walk from Green Park underground.
Tate Modern is Britain’s national museum of modern art in London and, with Tate Britain, Tate Liverpool and Tate St. Ives, a part of the Tate Gallery. The galleries are housed in the former Bankside Power Station, which was originally designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, the architect responsible for Battersea Power Station, and built in two stages between 1947 and 1963. The power station closed in 1981. The building was converted by architects Herzog & de Meuron and stands at 99 meters tall. Since its opening on May 12, 2000, it has become a very popular destination for Londoners and tourists.
Englefield House was built in the Tudor period; substantial additions and alterations were made in the 18th and 19th centuries. Queen Elizabeth I visited the house on two occasions, entering through the Long Gallery. The buildings to the right and left of the Long Gallery, (now converted to a house) were the laundry and the brew house. In Elizabethan times and later, there were 40 servants living in the house who had to be catered for. To meet the requirements of the household, vegetables and fruit were grown in three large kitchen gardens which now have been partly developed as a commercial market garden and stables. The Queen granted Englefield to her favourite, Sir Francis Walsingham, from whom the present owner, Sir William Benyon is indirectly descended. There have been only two families in ownership since before the Norman conquest and the property has been held by the same family for well over three hundred years.
Wigmore Hall Built in 1901 by the Bechstein piano company, Wigmore Hall is justifiably regarded as one of the world’s great recital halls, attracting the leading classical musicians of our time, and often setting the standard for international chamber music and song. Wigmore Hall’s artistic programming is complemented by a highly innovative and diverse Community & Education program.
