New Repertory Theatre offers Internship opportunities in the following areas:
New Rep's goal is to tailor its internships to fit both the interests of the intern and the needs of the theatre, and we talk individually with each intern applicant to determine the best placement for them within the organization. As such, our interns often work with more than one department and are generally able to choose a schedule that works best for them. Interns work directly with New Rep's professional staff, as well as with all of the actors, directors, and designers for our productions. New Rep also offers a convenient location in Watertown, which is easily accessible by car and bus.
The time frame for internships is usually Fall semester, Spring semester, the full academic year, or summer, though start and end dates can be flexible. Internships are unpaid, but credit may be available. We accept High School, College, and Graduate level interns.
To apply for an internship, e-mail, fax, or mail a cover letter and resume to:

Box Office/Front of House:
Box Office Interns will participate in the day-to-day operation of the Box Office. Interns will be trained on the Box Office ticketing system: Choice Ticketing, and they will sell tickets to customers over the phone and in person at the Box Office window. Other duties may include filing, helping with paperwork, setting up will call tickets, helping with subscription renewals, ushering, and other activities as needed. There are many shifts available for Box Office interns in the afternoons, evenings, and on weekends.
Front of House Interns will help with the coordination of ushers, concessions, and House Management and will help keep our Front of House environmentally and 'Green' friendly. Some Front of House work can be done during the afternoon, but a commitment to evenings and weekends is a must for Front of House Interns. Both Box Office and Front of House interns are an important part of our customer service team, which is not only 'the face' of New Rep that patrons see, but also the part of New Rep that makes the patrons feel like they are a part of the New Rep family. Box Office and Front of House internships are usually combined.
Education Interns at New Rep assist the Education Associate with the research for and writing of Study Guide materials for Mainstage and New Rep On Tour productions; assisting with marketing of New Rep Studio classes and the New Rep On Tour program; and processing data from teacher and student evaluations for both our New Rep On Tour and our Student Matinee programs.
Artistic Interns will work directly with the Artistic Associate, largely to read and evaluate new plays that we receive each week. Interns may also help pull together dramaturgical research for the upcoming season and assist in writing the program notes for all of our Mainstage shows. They may also participate in seasonal casting (which typically takes place from May to July).
Management Interns will work directly with the Management Associate on day-to-day operations of the theatre. Duties may include working on program books, assisting with accounts payable, managing ticket donations, maintaining office supplies and upkeep, filing, researching vendor services, database projects, creating comparative spreadsheets, and other activities as needed.
Production Interns will work directly with the Production Manager and Production Coordinator on the operations of the Production Department. Duties would include assisting with show budgets, organizing the Production Department database, cataloging prop and costume inventories, maintaining departmental supplies, attending Production meetings, and other activities as needed. Run Crew positions may be available to Production interns.
Social Media interns will assist the Marketing and PR department by providing support to New Rep's social media efforts. Duties include: developing material/copy for social media sites; creating promotional videos for New Rep's YouTube page, updating information on New Rep's Twitter, Blog (Backstage @ New Rep), Facebook, and website; and monitoring and tracking individuals that use New Rep's social media. Knowledge of Twitter, Facebook, Blogger, YouTube, Video Editing, and Dreamweaver a plus.
Development interns will help develop community support for New Repertory Theatre's programming by: conducting research on foundations and creating letters of inquiry/proposals for foundations with a strong potential for supporting our cause; contacting potential corporate supporters for advertising, sponsorships, and in-kind contributions; providing support for special events, including our Gala Fundraiser; supporting direct mail initiatives by organizing materials and volunteers to ensure the timely distribution of our annual appeals, special event invitations, and thank you letters; assisting with the maintenance of our donor database; and providing basic administrative support.
