New Rep Gala 2015 featured in The Boston Globe‘s NAMES!

Over 300 guests revelled in a perfect spring evening at the New Rep Gala on Wednesday, May 6, 2015. Greeted at the Arsenal Center for the Arts by Sunset Limousine, party goers were whisked off to celebrate at a tent on the grounds of the Commander’s Mansion decorated in celebratory tones of blue and gold.

Scrumptious food was savored from outstanding restaurant partners including AB Catering, Farmers Market Kitchen, Miller’s Ale House, Not Your Average Joe’s, Sensational Foods, Stellina Restaurant and Terry O’Reilly’s. Guests included Board Members, artists, honorees and long-time patrons mingling and taking in the festive atmosphere which included flowers from John LaRoche of blueGuava and Todd C. Gordon tickling the ivories on the piano. A yearly tradition, Premier Bartending & Beverage Service whipped up a drink in the spirit of the evening called the “Celebration Sparkler.”

As guests entered the Arsenal Center for the Arts, they were greeted by the beautiful sound of a string quartet from the Suzuki School of Newton.  Upon taking their seats, Lilia Wood and Vladmyr Derisier led dancers from Ballroom in Boston who dazzled the audience with a mesmerizing waltz showcasing their grace and agility.

Opening remarks made by WGBH’s Jared Bowen were a spirited way to kick off the program portion of the evening as he offered his amusing observations and anecdotes about guests and honorees.  The highlight of the program was the presentation of awards to our distinguished honorees.  Former honoree, Robert Brustein presented actor, writer and director, Austin Pendleton with the 2015 Lifetime Achievement Artistic Award. Massachusetts Cultural Council’s Executive Director, Anita Walker presented the 2015 Community Advocate Award to WGBH’s CEO and President, Jon Abbott. Former Board Chair Michael McCay presented the 2015 Karoff  Leadership Award to Marcy Crary and Tim Hall.  Marcy has been on the board for over 25 years and Tim is a former board member.

Dazzling performances by Benjamin Evett, Leigh Barrett, Robert Saoud, Todd C. Gordon, Brad Peloquin, and Aimee Doherty lit up the stage. Steve Aveson of NECN sparkled with excitement as he led the audience to raise $64,000 for Fund a Future and auctioned off exciting packages totaling over $4,900. Classic Repertory Company member Miguel Fana and Perduco student Eli Berkowitz offered words of inspiration highlighting the importance of arts in our schools and the development of  young artists. The night finished out in grand style with tempting desserts by Vicki Lee’s and Wilson Farm.

We are proud to announce that we raised $172,000, 38% above our goal at the New Rep 2015 Gala. We could not have done it without the passion and dedication of our Board, Gala Co-Chairs, Gala Committee, Honorary Committee, Sponsors, Local Business Partners, Volunteers, and Staff. Special thanks to our Silent and Live Auction contributors and our very special donors and patrons.
