Be a Star in the Eyes of a Child
Did you know that New Rep is annually increasing the number of free and reduced-price opportunities for local underserved students? One Brighton High School student who spoke at our recent Gala stated,
New Rep has had a very positive impact on me. We only have one theatre class and our school play was recently cancelled due to budget cuts. The experiences I’ve had with New Rep, going to see Mister Roberts and A Christmas Carol in the theatre and experiencing literature coming to life in my school with New Rep On Tour’s productions of Animal Farm and Macbeth, wouldn’t otherwise have been available to me. My class was also part of an in-school Shakespeare workshop. It brought Macbeth to life by getting us up to act out difficult scenes. These hands-on activities helped me better understand Shakespeare.
As school and city budgets tighten even further next year, New Rep wants to fulfill the increased demand for quality in-school arts programming for our students, but we must have increased support. Below are some examples of our costs.
- One free performance of New Rep On Tour on site at an underserved school - $2,700
- One in-school workshop to accompany New Rep On Tour - $250
- One student’s study guide materials for the year - $20

Since 1984, New Repertory Theatre has grown to be the 3rd largest non-profit professional theatre in the Boston area, providing audiences with engaging, insightful and entertaining theatrical productions. We will soon enter our fifth season at the Arsenal Center for the Arts. This wonderful new home has enabled us to expand our programming and offer a comfortable, convienent experience for our patrons. No matter what happens on stage, the starring role is always behind the scenes. None of this would be possible without the generous support of our friends and contributors who play a most important role in ensuring the future of New Rep. |
